UPDATE: Wood Co. and Marathon Co. officials say stay off roads

Posted:

The Wood County Sheriff's Department is asking people to stay off the roads, because of winter conditions.

Officials there tell Newsline 9 that they have been several crashes and people are now having trouble getting up hills because of icy conditions.

This Wood County Dispatch Center sent out an alert around 11:00 a.m. Sunday saying roads have become ice covered and treacherous.

Dispatch center authorities say travel is not advised and sidewalks are ice covered.

They're asking you to stay home until conditions improve, and salt has time to melt the ice on roads.

Officials at the Marathon County Sheriff's Department say there have been numerous slide offs and minor crashes Sunday afternoon.

They say so far crews have been able to keep up with the calls.

They are recommending that people stay off the roads and wait for highway crews to salt before heading out.
