Many show up for Panfish public hearing in Stevens Point

Posted:

The most common fish caught by anglers in Wisconsin was the hot topic at a public hearing Tuesday night in Stevens Point.

The first of several Panfish public hearings took place at Ben Franklin Junior High School.

Many showed up for the 30 minute presentation on the future of Panfish management in Wisconsin.

DNR officials say the meetings mark the start of a statewide effort to better connect with anglers in Wisconsin, and they say the public appreciates it.

"I think the public always appreciates when you take their input into consideration especially on a topic like Panfish management which is near and dear to many people's hearts and a good portion of our anglers in Wisconsin are Panfish anglers and it's an important fishery, they are very important in the state of Wisconsin," said Wisconsin DNR official, Tom Meronek.

Attendees were asked to fill out a survey to help the DNR understand their concerns and issues for Panfish.
