Marshfield Fire Chief James Schmidt is hard at work in his office, but come July, this office will belong to someone else.
“I decided to was time to step down and let someone else take the organization to the next level,” said Schmidt.
Chief Schmidt is retiring after 31 years with the MarshfieldFire Department. He’s been the Fire Chief for six years. He said he loves the job.
“All the camaraderie, the ribbing, and I think it’s been stated many times over in different places, the fire service, like many other professions, is like a family, and I’ll Allss that family,” said Schmidt.
And those who work closely with the Chief said they’ll malls his sense of humor.
“I think Jim has just brought a level of personality to this organization that I certainly hope goes forward,” said Marshfield Police and Fire Commission president Randy Gershman.
Chief Schmidt said one of his biggest accomplishments Smithfield’s state of the art fire station, but he’s even more proud of the department’s teamwork and cooperation. He said it’s an atmosphere he worked hard to help create.
“I see my position as a fire chief kind of a coach of ate am, if you will. Certainly, without a qualified team or a team that embraces the vision of the department, we would not have been as successful as we were,”said Schmidt.
Chief Schmidt said as he hangs up his fire hat for the last time, he will remember all the rewards of the job.
“I’m extremeamy proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to work for the city of Marshfield,” said Schmidt.
