UW-Stevens Point scored a goal in each of the first two periods to take a series lead in the Peters Cup quarterfinals against UW-River Falls.
Josh Daley scored the opening goal for the Pointers midway through the first period, taking the puck from Jerry Freismuth.
Less than five minutes into the second period, River Falls tied the game when Cody Kohn scored.
But Andrew Kolb scored the deciding goal 13:40 into the second period.
The Pointers need a win or a tie in Game 2 on Saturday night to advance the semifinals.
