WAUSAU (WAOW) -

The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America has named the Weston-based Samoset Council tops in the nation.

Three years ago, the national organization established a program to drive continuous quality improvement of the scouting program. It is called "Journey to Excellence," which looks at 17 criteria. Out of 287 Boy Scout Councils in the USA, the Samoset Council ranked first.

The Samoset council includes some 2500 volunteers serving 5500 young people.

Council President, Marita Hattem says, "It is quite a testament to what out volunteers do to enrich the lives of boys and teach them to be great men. You look at what's being done in Wausau, and what kids can grow up to be in our community."
