Wausau city leaders discuss funding for Thomas St. project

Wausau city leaders met on Tuesday to discuss funding for the Thomas Street project.

At the Economic Development Committee meeting, city officials discussed if TIF funding could be used to help fund the $ 15 million project.

No decision was made. The committee will discuss this again at a future meeting.

Last week, the Capitol Improvements and Street Maintenance Committee voted to move the project forward.

The project would widen the street to four lanes -- impacting many homes and business near there.

The project has seen plenty of ups and downs. Recently, the city learned it couldn't qualify for federal funding to help pay for it because the city didn't follow proper guidelines buying homes along Thomas Street.
