WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - A Racine woman and a Nekoosa man accused of physically abusing an 8-month-old boy have been ordered to stand trial.
Twenty-seven-year-old Robert Winker and 20-year-old Kurstyn Bieneman each face two felony charges of child neglect and child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.
The pair waived their right to a preliminary hearing during an appearance in Wood County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Constable said Bieneman pleaded not guilty to the charges. Winker is to return to court March 25 to enter his pleas.
Bieneman is the mother of the boy who was hurt.
A criminal complaint says Bieneman and Winker were staying at a Nekoosa residence last August and were responsible for the care of the baby. The child's grandmother took the boy to the hospital after discovering injuries.
Medical records show the baby had fractures in his wrist, legs, ankle and ribs. He also had a swollen eye, blood in his ear canals and bruises on his face.
The complaint says Winker told investigators Bieneman was physically rough with the baby. Bieneman says she saw Winker shake the child.
Constable says Winker and Bieneman are free on signature bonds.
