Winter weather advisory active on Friday

A winter storm system moving across the Plains will begin to impact Wisconsin early on Friday morning.

The National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory active for all counties in Wisconsin.  The advisory for Marathon, Wood, Portage, Adams, Juneau, Clark, Taylor, Jackson, Waushara, Waupaca and Shawano Counties is set to run from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

Winter storm warnings are active for every county in Kansas and most of Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. Winter weather advisories are also place for southeastern Minnesota and much of Illinois.

The storm is capable of dropping more than 6" of snow across a large swath of the Plains. However forecast models show the storm having less intensity as it moves toward and over Wisconsin.

Accumulation projections place between 3 to 5" of snow across much of Central Wisconsin by Friday evening.

Motorists should exercise caution when driving early on Friday as the snow may make roadways slick.
