People in Merrill spent Thursday evening learning about a proposal to mine in northern Wisconsin.
The discussion was part of the "Words Worth Hearing" programming series at the T.B. Scott Free Library.
A few dozen people showed up to hear the pros and cons of mining in the upper region of Wisconsin.
"We have to be good environmental stewards and try to balance that with the impulse for economic development and that's a very difficult balance," said Don Litzer, the library's assistant director. "I think the more we know about the facts involved, the better that we can make an informed decision."
State lawmakers are set to debate a bill that would allow a company to open a giant open pit iron mine south of Lake Superior.
