Gun plot part of Medford High School threat

MEDFORD (WAOW) - Students at Medford High School told investigators about hearing talk of "doing a gun threat" and the shooting would start downstairs, according to a criminal complaint filed in Taylor County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Last week, school officials told parents that a threat to the safety of the high school was discovered in the girls bathroom, leading to massive absences and heightened police protection last Friday. The exact details of the threat were not disclosed.

School officials said that a 17-year-old female student was arrested late that day, easing concerns about school safety.

The teenager, Denarah Kitzman of Medford, was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor bail jumping and obstructing an officer.

The complaint says Kitzman pointed the finger at others plotting the threat, telling police that another student told her she was "going to write about a gun threat and that she would do it in the downstairs bathroom."

Kitzman later told investigators she had made up some of the stories because she "wasn't in the the right frame of mind" and was distraught over "life in general."

One student told police that Kitzman knew details of the note, including the shooting would start downstairs.

Asked about that accusation, Kitzman told police she knew details of the note because she had seen it while being interviewed by police earlier, the complaint said.
