Auburndale School District takes precautions after reported threat

WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -

Parents in the Auburndale School District have the option of sending their children to school on Thursday after a threat was reported, according to sheriff's and district officials.

Wood County Sheriff's Sgt. John Hiller told Newsline 9 officers investigated a threat that a student may be bringing a gun to the high school. However, that threat was proven to be unfounded, Hiller said.

Still, the Auburndale School District is telling parents they have the option of sending their children to school on Thursday. Auburndale School Board vice president Wayne Meyer said any absences on Thursday will not be counted against students if parents choose not to send them. He told Newsline 9 this applies to both schools in the district.

Sgt. Hiller said sheriff's officers will patrol the area around the school Thursday for extra presence, but there will be no checkpoints at school.
