The husband of a missing DC Everest graduate has now been
charged with murder. This comes almost one week after 30-year-old Kira Trevino
was last seen.
Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, 39, is in a Minnesota jail. He's being held on a $1
million bond. Prosecutors say he killed Kira Trevino. Police say her body has not been found.
Kira Trevino graduated from DC Everest High School more
than 10 years ago. Now, prosecutors say it was her husband who killed her.
While her body has not been found, prosecutors say they have
plenty of evidence. According to the criminal complaint, "based on the
amount of blood found in her home and vehicle and based on the fact that it is
highly uncharacteristic of her to be missing for nearly a full week without any
contact with family, friends or coworkers."
"The defendant in this particular case took a number of
actions to be evasive and cover up this murder and in every step, law
enforcement was there to unravel his schemes," Ramsey County Attorney John
Choi said.
Minnesota
prosecutors say it's rare to move forward with murder charges when there's no
body. But they say they're confident.
"It is possible to obtain a conviction and we wouldn't
be moving forward today, unless we believed we could prove this case beyond a
reasonable doubt," Choi said.
According to the criminal complaint, Kira Trevino's family told
police "she had been unhappy and talked about moving out over the past few
months."
"There was not any past police calls, or anything of
that nature. But in the complaint, there's evidence of difficulties in the
relationship," Choi said.
Prosecutors say Kira Trevino's family agrees with the charges.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with them and that we
will do everything we can in our power to bring the defendant to justice for
these horrific crimes," Choi said.
Trevino is facing two murder charges. But prosecutors say
that's not uncommon. They say as the process continues, only one will likely
move forward. Jeffery Trevino is being held in the Ramsey County
jail on a $1 million bond.
Newsline 9 did speak with Trevino's attorney. He says his
client is innocent and just wants to see Kira again.
