MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- -

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Federal safety officials have fined a Massachusetts-based food manufacturing company more than $230,000 for alleged safety allegations in Wisconsin.

Richelieu Foods Inc. is accused of exposing workers at its facility in Beaver Dam to numerous safety hazards and health violations. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the proposed fines Thursday.

OSHA says Richelieu was a repeat violator. The Beaver Dam facility was cited for similar safety violations in 2009.

OSHA spokeswoman says Richelieu put workers' safety at risk by allowing hazards to persist.

Richelieu employs about 410 workers at its Beaver Dam location, which makes frozen pizza, salad dressings and sauces, among other things.

The company is headquartered in Randolph, Mass. A telephone message left for Richelieu was not immediately returned.
