Wounded Adams Co. deputy released from hospital

ADAMS COUNTY (WAOW) - The Adams County sheriff's deputy wounded in a Feb. 19 shooting was released from a Marshfield hospital Friday, a hospital spokesman said.

Deputy Todd Johnson, 43, was shot when he and another officer went to a Town of Big Flats home on a report of suspicious activity.

Adams County Sheriff Sam Wollin has said that when officers arrived, Thomas Costigan was inside the home and fired several shots at the officers, hitting Johnson. The extent of his wounds have not been disclosed.

Wollin said the officers did not shoot back and Costigan shot himself. Costigan died the next day.

At the time of the shooting, officials in West Allis were looking for Costigan's wife in a domestic dispute investigation.
