State senator adds Hmong pages to website


MADISON (WAOW) - State Sen. Jerry Petrowski, R-Marathon, says his legislative website will now include pages translated into the Hmong language.

"It should be especially helpful for the first-generation Hmong who may not speak English as their primary language," Petrowski said.

Lee Lor of Wausau, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an intern in Petrowski's office, will translate for the website and serve as a liaison for Hmong residents.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, more than 5,600 Hmong live in Marathon County, which is part of the 29th Senate District.

Petrowski, who was first elected to the state Assembly in 1998, was elected to the Senate in last June's recall election.
