Turkeypalooza raises money for Wausau Women's Community

Dozens of people took part in a unique type of bowling on Saturday. Turkeypalooza benefited the Women's Community in Wausau and for three dollars, people tossed frozen turkeys down an icy lane.

Many said it was a fun experience.

"My first one was a hit and a miss but my second time I accidentally crossed lanes and hit the other one," bowler Erin Salamone said.

Organizers told Newsline 9 the goal of the event was to raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault in the community.

"It's a little thing, a little event, but hopefully it will help. Even if it helps just one person, that's what really matters," organizer Bridgette Groth said.

Participants said that's a cause they were happy to support.

"You just kind of picture a woman with kids that really feels like there's no place to go, they couldn't really leave that dangerous situation at home or whatever but knowing that there's something like that out there, that they can just make a simple phone call and be connected with services, that's a really great thing," Salamone said.

Organizers hoped to raise several hundred dollars for the Women's Community.

The turkeys won't go to waste. They will be donated to the Raptor Education Group in Antigo.
