The UW Fieldhouse could barely hold all the excitement Saturday night after Wausau West wrestling held on to a one point victory over Kaukauna in the state team championship match.
Sunday afternoon, that same level of excitement made it's way back from Madison as the team returned to Wausau.
As the Warriors arrived in their chartered bus, fans cheered loudly with support for Wisconsin's best Division I wrestling team.
The wrestlers and coaching staff were glowing with a pride that couldn't be dimmed.
Once inside the school, athletic directer and legendary former wrestling coach Dan Hein spoke on the accomplishment and how difficult it actually is to win a state title.
He then turned the mic over to head coach Troy Fabry, who could barely get words out as he fought back tears of joy.
"It's all about dedication, sacrifice, and commitment," says Fabry.
"They're going to be able to use that as a life lesson when they're going for a job, when they're going off the college, working, and grinding away. There's a saying by Dan Gable, 'Once you've wrestled, everything is easy."
Hein spoke highly of the coaching staff and the entire wrestling team at West.
"We have a great program with a great coaching staff," Hein said.
"We have a lot of great sports at Wausau West and those (state titles) aren't easy to get so when you have a bus pull up bringing one back to our school, that's a huge deal."
