Sparta police recommend charges in bus fight

Posted:

SPARTA, Wis. (AP) -- Sparta police are recommending criminal charges against a 12-year-old boy accused of bullying another student on the school bus.

A 13-year-old boy told police he was being teased about a stain on his shirt while riding the bus Feb. 19 and was aggressively targeted by the 12-year-old.

Police say the younger boy could be seen on bus video directing lewd acts toward the 13-year-old.

Eventually the boys started fighting and exchanged punches.

Investigators say it appears the older boy was acting in self-defense.

Officers have referred the 12-year-old to juvenile court in Monroe County on possible charges of harassment, battery and disorderly conduct.
