EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- An Eau Claire man accused of killing a 39-year-old man with a crowbar plans an insanity defense.

A public defender entered pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect on behalf of 52-year-old James E. Olson on Tuesday.

The judge appointed a psychologist to evaluate Olson. The psychologist previously examined Olson to determine Olson's competency to help with his defense.

The findings will be discussed in court April 18.

Olson is charged with a felony count of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Paul Oberle last year.

Olson is accused of killing Oberle with a crowbar on June 9 after Oberle returned home from working the overnight shift at an Eau Claire grocery store.
