Mosinee School District Superintendent calls it a career

The Mosinee School District Superintendent is retiring this summer. Jerry Rosso says he loves his job but it's now time to turn the page and start a new chapter.

Jerry Rosso has been the Mosinee School District Superintendent since 2002. After almost 36 years in the field of education, Rosso says it's time to retire.

"I just feel like it's time for me to move on and make another career I guess, at age 60," said Rosso.

He says his career as a superintendent was great, but he's looking forward to making time for new adventures.

"At some point and time, time becomes more important than money," he said.

Rosso's coworkers say the news didn't come as a surprise.

"So I wasn't shocked, but I thought maybe he'd stay another year, it'll be different definitely because I think any leader sets the pace in the office and that will be different," said Administrative Assistant, Janie Prazuch.

Rosso is looking forward to reaching new goals.

"I think I just am two-thirds of the way through that I told some of the teachers I was talking to that years 0 through 30 were great, years 30 through 60 were even better and I hope that my years from age 60 through 90 will be even better than that yet, so there's still things I would like to accomplish in life," said Rosso.

Rosso has received positive feedback from the community about his retirement. He says he's been fortunate to have the job, but it's a decision that needed to be made.

"I'd rather pull a Donald Driver than a Brett Favre so I want to leave when things are going and not make things nasty, so I think I'm leaving at a good time," he said.

Rosso says he plans to travel with his wife and do a lot of fishing.  His last day on the job is June 30th.

Rosso says the school district is now looking to fill his position. He says 17 candidates have applied.
