Pep rally sends off Amherst basketball team

There was nothing but Falcon pride in Amherst as they sent their boys basketball team off to Madison to compete in the WIAA semi-finals.
"It's finally starting to kick in a little bit that we're actually playing down in Madison," said Marcus Jensen, Amherst Senior.

It's been an exciting year for Amherst Athletics. Their football players were champions last fall, and now, the boys basketball team hopes to become champions, too.

"Bottom line is that they're going to go compete, and when you compete, you're in good shape," said Head Coach Gregg Jensen.

The boys basketball team hasn't played in the state tournament since 1998.

"I was three when they went to state. It was the first year it was at the Kohl Center," said Marcus Jensen.

Gregg Jensen said his team is excited to compete for a championship.

"When you're a young kid, everybody wants to get to state, and they're getting that opportunity. So, they're really looking forward to it," said Gregg Jensen.

"When I was little, I always wanted to be playing in one of those big games, playing at the Kohl Center where that Badgers play with all the Big Ten schools and stuff," said Ryan Makuski, Amherst Senior.

Amherst will be taking on Auburndale. It's become a heated rivalry.

"Last year, we upset them, with them being the number one seed. We beat them at their place. So, there's been some really good games. They have a very good tradition," said Gregg Jensen.

One this is for sure, the entire Amherst community will be cheering on their team.
