Trade mission to China aims to boost Wis. exports

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -

Gov. Scott Walker hopes a trade mission he is leading to China will help expand markets for Wisconsin products in the world's second-largest economy.

Walker will visit four cities in 10 days in April. He will meet with representatives from China's agriculture, machinery, medical devices and clean energy industries.

Walker also hopes the mission will attract capital for Wisconsin businesses.

China is Wisconsin's third-largest export market behind Canada and Mexico. The state moved more than $1.5 billion in exports to China last year.

The governor's office doesn't yet have an estimate on the trip's public cost. Private companies are paying their own way.

This is Walker's first trip to China. Former Gov. Jim Doyle led several trade missions to the country.
