Update: Heaviest snow ending

Posted:

The heaviest snow from the latest winter storm to impact Central Wisconsin has come to an end for most of Marathon, Wood, Portage and counties south of the Highway 29 corridor.

Radar returns show diminishing snow intensity over much the region after the strongest rain and snow pushed northeastward overnight.  In its wake, drier air has been able to advance from the south into much of the Newsline 9 viewing area.

Dry air helps to break apart systems by cutting off precipitation.

Preliminary snowfall estimates place approximately 4" of snow in Wausau as of 3:17 a.m.

Remaining snow will continue to slowly diminish in intensity through the morning hours. For a live look at the current radar follow this link: http://www.waow.com/weather.
