The Resch Center prepares for big event

Tens of thousands of people will soon descend on the Green Bay area.

"We're really rolling out the red carpet for all of our guests," Beth Ropson, Director of Sales for the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau said.

For the first time The Resch Center in Ashwaubenon is home to the WIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament.

"Green Bay is ready for the event, we want the event and we can really put some heart into the event," Cora Haltaufderheid, Chief Operating Officer for PMI Entertainment said.

But before athletes can hit the court, a lot of work needs to be done.

"We want to make sure we don't just provide an event but we give you a home, an attitude, we really open up our doors to you," Haltaufderheid said.

Tournament officials say it's taken hundreds of people, and a lot more hours, to make sure everything is in place.

"Driving around the city you'll see all the ‘welcome WIAA Girls Basketball signs', there's poster, buttons and T-shirts," Ropson explained.

And with 18,000 tickets sold to date, officials say when the doors open they expect these seats to be filled.

"The community has really stepped forward and embraced this event," Ropson said.

In fact, tourism leaders estimate this weekend will bring almost $3 million dollars into the community.

"The restaurants, hotels, gas stations, everybody benefits from it," Ropson said.

So as each team prepares for the big game, final touches will be added for the big event. As everyone continues to make sure the red carpet is rolled out.
