VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -

Gov. Dennis Daugaard and a software services company announced Wednesday that 1,000 information technology jobs are coming to South Dakota as part of a growing effort to keep high-tech positions from being shipped overseas.

Eagle Creek Software Services provides Web and app development and technical support to large health care, financial services and other companies.

Eagle Creek says it will build a new project center in Vermillion and partner with the University of South Dakota to help train potential employees.

Daugaard says training money is often a part of economic development incentive packages, but such a partnership is a different approach.

The arrangement is an expansion of Eagle Creek's so-called Dakota model, which uses U.S.-based project centers in lower-cost areas as an alternative to providing IT support from overseas locations.
