Athlete of the Week: Newman Catholic's Brianna Jankowski

No matter what season it is, you can count on Brianna Jankowski having a full schedule.

"Volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and softball in the spring," says Jankowski

Competing in three sports and maintaining a 3.9 grade point average, she has learned that time is a valuable asset.

"I think time management is huge, you really learn to manage your time well. You use your study hall very wisely and your lunch period too, you work on homework on that as well," says Jankowski.

"Especially if you have a game that night, you're doing homework all day long trying to get it done, so when you get home you're not up till 1 or 1:30 trying to get it done and get the right amount of sleep to perform to the best of your ability the next day."

With one sport ending and another picking up it leaves no room for an off-season. Sometimes these three sports over-lap and the art of time management really comes into play.

"The one occurrence that I remember the most was when I had a softball tournament, and a basketball tournament. I went from summer league basketball to a softball game to a basketball game to a softball game. I think I played like 5 or 4 games in one day," she recalls.

"You want her at your sport at that time, and you're hoping she picks yours, but you have to work together. You get good athletes of all three sports work together. That makes better athletes a better team here at Newman," said volleyball coach Terri Fech.

Juggling three sports and her academics, Jankowski is learning so much more than how to compete to best of her ability.

"I like building relationships with other people and learning determination and how to work hard. Working hard all year long, and not just sports but school."

Jankowski Says that she plans on staying as active as possible in college. She plans on taking part in intramural and club sports in order to stay as active as possible.
