Administrator Todd Kuckkahn said Wednesday that no circumstances surrounding the death of Joey Miller were being released other than he died in school. St. Peter's is a Roman Catholic school. "We are shocked and saddened," Kuckkahn said. Officials in Dane County and elsewhere are setting up task forces to see how prepared they are to deal with symptoms of climate change.
A Wisconsin Public Radio report says the councils will evaluate how readily they can cope with issues such as heat, droughts and flooding. That includes studying how well they can protect vulnerable residents such as the elderly and infirm.
Dane County Executive Joe Parisi says the effects of climate change are clear. He says 150 years ago Lake Mendota stayed frozen for about four months, but now it's down to three months.
The Dane County council is expected to have its report and recommendations ready by September.
Similar task forces are also being created in places including Green Bay, La Crosse and Superior.
