UPDATE: Closing arguments end in Wis. starved girl case

Posted:
MADISON (AP) -

Closing arguments have ended in the case of a Wisconsin man charged with starving and torturing his 16-year-old daughter.

Dane County District Attorney Matthew Moeser told jurors Thursday the man hid his daughter in his basement so people wouldn't ask questions. Moeser says the girl didn't know what day or month it was. The girl weighed 68 pounds when she ran away from the home in February 2012 and was discovered by a passing motorist.

But defense attorney William Hayes says the girl is a liar, mentally ill and chose not to eat.

Jurors have begun deliberating in the case.

The Associated Press isn't naming the man to avoid identifying the girl, who has said her stepbrother tried to sexually assault her.
