Judge: Trevino's bail stays at $1 million

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WAOW) - A judge refused to reduce the $1 million bail for the husband accused of killing his wife, a graduate of a central Wisconsin high school, according to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office.

Jeffery Trevino is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Kira Trevino.

Dennis Gerhardstein, a spokesman for prosecutors, said Jeffery Trevino's attorney requested Thursday that Trevino's bail be reduced from $1 million to something more affordable, perhaps $100,000, arguing that Trevino has family in the area and was not a flight risk.

Prosecutors told the judge that Trevino called his family from jail and asked for a briefcase that was under his bed, Gerhardstein said. Prosecutors say the briefcase contained Trevino's passport, and police already had it.

"We believe he is a flight risk," Gerhardstein said.

Kira Trevino's body has not been found, but police believe she is dead based on the amount of blood found in her home and car. They also say it would be uncharacteristic of her to go missing without contacting friends and family. She was last seen Feb. 21.

Trevino is a 2001 graduate of D.C. Everest High School in Weston.

St. Paul police say they have received more than 50 tips in Trevino's disappearance. The tip line phone number is 651-560-3277.
