Grand Rapids Police Chief announces retirement

The Grand Rapids Police Chief has announced he is retiring this summer.

Dave Lewandowski says his last day will be July 31, 2013.

Lewandowski has been in law enforcement for 35 years and has been the police chief for five years.

"It's time," Lewandowski says. "I'm getting married and we're moving to Colorado. It's time to start that other chapter in my life."

Lewandowski says he informed the Police and Fire Commission last week. He says a committee is in charge of finding a replacement. They hope to have someone hired by mid June so they can be properly trained.
