MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -
Two men accused in a Marathon County extortion case have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Prosecutors say Alex Santiago, 29, of Ringle and Dustin Congleton, 28, of Weston extorted about $100,000 from a 56-year-old central Wisconsin man who had an affair with a woman and wanted to keep it secret because he was married.
Santiago and Congleton are charged with two felonies: extortion and receiving stolen property, according to court records.
During a court appearance, both men waived the right to a preliminary hearing. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for next month.
Congleton remains behind bars, while Santiago is free on bond.
Santiago and Congleton are both convicted felons, according to online court records.
