Antigo woman convicted in embezzlement case

GREEN BAY (WAOW) - An Antigo woman accused of stealing about $500,000 from the company where she worked as a human resources manager has pleaded guilty to two federal charges and will be sentenced in June.

Susan Tatro, 44, was indicted last May on 30 counts of wire fraud in an embezzlement scheme between 2006 and 2011 at Waukesha Bearings Corp.'s Antigo plant, according to court records.

Prosecutors say she wrote checks to herself off the company petty cash account and kept tens of thousands of dollars.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Jacobs said Monday that Tatro pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud in a plea agreement in which she admitted stealing $17,000.

Court records say Tatro, who started working for Waukesha Bearings in 1986 in the computer department and was named human resources director in Antigo in 1990, wrote more than 300 checks to herself totaling $540,000 between January 2006 and January 2011, but she claimed no more than $40,000 was wrongly diverted and the rest paid for company business.

Jacobs said U.S. District Judge William Griesbach has set a restitution hearing for June 3 to hear evidence on how much money Tatro may have embezzled. The judge set Tatro's sentencing for June 12.

Court records say the maximum punishment for the two wire fraud convictions is 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Waukesha Bearings, headquartered in Pewaukee, makes bearings for turbomachinery for oil and gas, power generation, marine and industrial companies. Its parent company is Dover Industrial Products.
