WAUSAU (WAOW) - The late-winter snow storm that pushed across central Wisconsin on Monday kept some local law enforcement agencies busy.
The Portage County Sheriff's Department said it had received at least 20 traffic-related calls involving slippery roads - most of them vehicles sliding into the ditch but some rollovers too - by about 3:30 p.m.
Sgt. Lee Garrels of the Wood County Sheriff's Department said his agency had received 15 reports of vehicles skidding off the road by mid-afternoon as 3 inches of new snow covered the ground. Officers also investigated two accidents with minor damage and no injuries, he said.
The slippery roads caused Pittsville High School to cancel after-school activities, Garrels said.
The Marathon County Sheriff's Department said it had received about a dozen calls of vehicles in the ditch by mid-afternoon.
The Clark County Sheriff's Department reported that by 3 p.m., it had four reports of vehicles sliding in the ditch, all without injuries.
Forecasters said the storm would dump from 1 to 4 inches of new snow as it moved eastward.
