Snow and cold put strain on spring sports

WAUSAU (WAOW) -

It's not your typical track practice. But, for the boys and girls track and field team at Wausau West High School right now it's all they have.

"You have to make the best of it, you just have to be patient," Girls Head Coach John Masanz said.

Mother Nature's wicked winter weather has put a hold on spring sports heading outdoors.

"When we have the big facility we try to spend every minute we have in there and get the most out of it," Masanz explained. "The kids are great, and I've harped on this since day one that we only worry about the things we can control."

Right now every spring sport has begun practice. But, since heading outside isn't an option coaches say they have to get creative.

"These kids understand what it is we have to do, we have  to practice and we do and we make the best of it."

But, the snow is still a welcomed sight for some. Leaders at Granite Peak Ski Area say more snow equals more business. And for skiers, it means more runs down the mountain.

"I'd rather have cold. If it's going to be cold than it mine as well be snowy," David Loshek said.

Regardless, most say they can all agree on one thing, they could use a little sunshine.
