The Merrill School District says it's reached an agreement with a former teacher and coach who was fired.
Jay Peterson was terminated last year after he was charged with possessing the main ingredient in marijuana. He pleaded no contest.
Peterson was a teacher at Merrill Middle School and a coach. He was one of more than a dozen people charged in what's described as a local drug ring.
The Merrill Interim Superintendent told Newsline 9 Peterson had filed a
grievance with the teacher's union regarding after his termination.
Now, the district says Peterson can get his job back next year as long as he satisfies the conditions of his plea deal, pays back the district $5,000 that he received while on paid leave, and takes part in drug testing.
Newsline 9 tried to reach Jay Peterson for comment. A phone number listed for him was disconnected.
