Dozens gather to learn about big changes coming to a major highway in Wausau
WAUSAU (WAOW) -
People in Wausau met Monday to learn about big changes coming to a major highway.
Dozens showed up for the meeting at Rasmussen College. They learned about construction soon to begin on Highway 51 at the interchanges at County Roads U and K.
State transportation officials say the two-year project will replace the Highway U bridge over US 51. The work will also construct roundabouts at the new County K interchange .
Officials say this upgrade is needed. But some people living nearby aren't happy.
"I think it's something the city of Wausau needs, it's the last portion of the Wausau corridor that's in really rough shape we do a lot of work down on 51-29 interchanges and everything the past few years, and this is the next step in the progression to get good roads around Wausau," said Wisconsin Department of Transportation Project Manager, Dan Erva.
"I want to know what's going on with the project because I have property there and it's going to affect me no matter which way the project goes, so that's my concern," said Weston resident, Tim Natarus.
Construction is expected to start the first week of April.
