MAPLEWOOD, Minnesota (WAOW) - Police say cadaver dogs led them to a specific area of a lake in Maplewood, in the search for a missing D.C. Everest graduate.
Authorities, family members, friends and strangers searched over the weekend at Keller Regional Park for any evidence that could lead them to Kira Trevino. During a press conference Tuesday, St. Paul Police Sgt. Paul Paulos reported that a tip from one of those independent search team brought investigators to the park. On Monday, investigators began using specially trained water cadaver dogs. Paulos said that the dogs alerted officers to a certain area of the lake.
Ramsey County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Randy Gustafson said searchers cut a hole through the two inch thick ice and used sonar, video and light equipment to search the area below the celestas said that the equipment didn't pick up anything. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Department then brought in its dive team to search. The team of 11 divers took turns searching for 20 minutes at a time in the frigid water. Authorities said the water is between four and six feet deep, and that divers can see very well with about five feet of clarity. Gustafson said they haven't found anything yet.
Trevino, 30, has been missing since February 21.
Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, has been charged with her murder, after police say large amounts of blood were found in their home.
