Wis. communities receive $1.1M in housing aid

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -

Three communities in western Wisconsin will receive more than $1.1 million in federal aid to build affordable housing for low-income residents.

Eagle Hills of Cashton will receive $402,000, Dancing Oaks of Menomonie will receive $491,000, and Bashara Apartments of Solon Springs will get $232,870.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration says the grants will help build affordable apartments and town homes for households at or below 60 percent of the nation's median income. All constructions are expected to start this year.

The department says communities can also use grants for acquisition and rehabilitation activities.

The grants are funded through the federal HOME Rental Housing Development program.
