WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Police say a Rothschild man died in a single-car crash on a Wisconsin River bridge near downtown Wausau.
Michael Dixon, 24, died in the crash Saturday afternoon on East Thomas Street between River Drive and Grand Avenue, the Wausau Police Department said Monday. A 4-year-old boy who was strapped into a car seat was severely injured, police said. The name of the boy was not released.
Speed was a factor in the crash, police said in a statement.
Dixon was wearing a seat belt and investigators found an uncapped syringe, spoon and lighter in the vehicle, Capt. Ben Bliven said. No other details were released.
Police said tests to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved will take several weeks to complete.
Dixon's vehicle was traveling eastbound on Thomas Street, crossed the westbound lanes and struck the concrete bridge abutment on the north side of the street, investigators said.
