Gov. Walker discusses possible Wausau Paper sale

Governor Scott Walker is talking about the possible sale of two paper mills in our area.

Last week, Wausau Paper signed a letter of intent to sell its specialty paper business to a New York private equity firm.

The mills in Rhinelander and Mosinee would be sold for a price tag of 130 million dollars.

Governor Walker says he met with Wausau Paper officials a few weeks ago and is staying updated on the sale and how jobs will be affected.

"This was really about having a long-term commitment here, but they needed to have the right partner and that's why I'm cautiously optimistic," said Walker. "I'm still reaching out to that entity to set up a meeting on my own."

Wausau paper officials have said the equity firm is also looking to buy another company.

They say if the sale is final, they will merge the two together to form a new business.

Governor Walker says he plans to keep an eye on the progress.
