Wausau warming center to stay open through April 15

Wausau city council members voted unanimously Tuesday night to keep a downtown warming center open for a few more weeks.

Leaders at the center asked council members to extend their conditional use permit due to the cold weather.

They say about 9 people have been staying at the center each night and sometimes, the maximum number of 15 people stay there.

A Wausau council member told Newsline 9 overall, the warming center has been a success.

It will now be open nightly through April 15. The warming center is located in the basement of the St. Paul's Community Center in downtown Wausau.
