TOWNSHIP OF KNOWLTON (WAOW) -

TOWN OF KNOWLTON (WAOW) - The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says a 25-year-old Madison woman was arrested for drunken driving, in a crash that involved four cars and seven people.

Lt. Dale Wisnewski says the woman rear-ended a van driven by a 31-year-old Stevens Point man about 11 p.m. Wednesday near the Town of Knowlton on Interstate 39. A third vehicle driven by a 34-year-old Mosinee woman then slammed into the back of the Madison woman's car that was stalled on the highway's southbound lane.

Wisnewski says the fourth vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old Ripon woman, came upon the crash, swerved to avoid it and skidded into the ditch.

Wisnewski says the Madison woman was arrested for causing injury while operating a vehicle under the influence and was hospitalized in Wausau with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Wisnewski says the other six people involved in the accident were treated for minor injuries.

One lane of the highway was shut down for nearly two hours while crews cleared the crash site.
