Amherst Softball prepares for a successful season

In 23 years as Amherst softball head coach, Tim Pederson has never had a losing season.

Even with the Falcons losing five starters to graduation, Pederson has enough key players returning with some promising underclassmen to have a successful campaign in 2013.

Last year Amherst finished tied for second in the CWC 8 and lost in the regional finals to Pacelli, who went on to win the Division 3 state title.

One key aspect returning to the diamond this season is pitcher Mikayla Dombrowski. The junior right-hander won 11 games as a starter last year.

The Falcons also return some important bats to the line-up with Jess Torrey and Marisa Loken coming back for their senior seasons.

Torrey led Amherst with 26 RBI's last spring while Loken recorded 27 total hits, driving in 23 runs.

Pederson will have to look to some younger players to fill spots but he has confidence that the underclassmen are ready to step up and compete for a conference title.
