Merrill School Board president loses election after controversy

MERRILL (WAOW) -

The Merrill School Board president has lost her re-election bid after a controversy involving an email.

Lin Kautza came in last place Tuesday among six candidates for the Merrill School Board.

In February, the day after the primary election, an email was sent from Kautza's school board account. It contained a political message, thanking supporters for their votes and asking for their support in April. The email also endorsed three other candidates in the race. The email was signed "Lin."

Kautza received a lot of criticism for the email. But the school board ultimately voted to let her keep her job and stay on the ballot.
