Fish Kill at Big Eau Pleine Reservoir

The ice is melting as spring arrives, and the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir near Wausau is experiencing a fish kill.

The State Department of Natural Resources officials say they aren't surprised. Last month, the DNR warned that low levels of oxygen in the Reservoir would cause a significant winter fish kill. DNR officials say the ice is still up to 20 inches thick, so it may be days before the extent of the fish kill is known.
