Simply put, Aleyna Goerlitz does it all. The Owen-Withee senior has been to state in volleyball, basketball, track, choir, band, and theatre, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. The future valedictorian has accomplished a rare feat by recording 1000 kills in volleyball and 1000 points in basketball, but the road to excellence got bumpy during her sophomore year.
"I thought I was doing really well. I was really happy with my improvements from the last year. Then we were about halfway through the basketball season and I tore my ACL," recalls Goerlitz. "That was a big set back but obviously getting back into sports gave me motivation and I was determined to get back."
Even without full mobility in her knee, Goerlitz returned to state in volleyball, basketball, and placed sixth for the triple jump at the state track meet her junior year.
"It was really exciting. I always wanted to be on the podium. There were so many people in the stands, all around. To hear your name announced is quite incredible."
Although Goerlitz has already accomplished so much at Owen-Withee, she continues to set the bar high for herself.
"My goal for track is to get to state once again, to set our school record, and then hopefully win the championship in the triple jump."
