In the era of Redbox and Netflix, a video store is actually growing.
"We're rapidly expanding and opening up in new areas," Family Video Store Manager Leanne Germinaro told Newsline 9.
Family Video already operates close to 800 stores in the United States and Canada and the company plans to open 40 more soon. Germinaro said those will be mostly in the south and on the east coast.
"You get a chance to actually browse and physically pick up the box and read about it and get opinions on it, too," said Germinaro.
She added that the company has several keys to success.
"We actually get our movies right away on day one for the brand new releases," she said, adding, "What we're known for is our free kids section...You can grab a couple of them, check them out, out the door you go."
And employees told Newsline 9 the store carries more copies of popular movies so when you stop in, it's in stock.
Customer Britney Reissman of Weston said she and her family come in about once a week despite having a Netflix account at home.
"Prices are awesome, especially if you get the half-off for the month. It's really cheap," she said.
Germinaro said competitive prices are another reason Family Video is doing well, and employees hope it stays that way as the company continues to expand and adapt in a tough market.
