WASHINGTON (ABC NEWS) -- President Barack Obama says he will return five percent of his $400,000 salary to the US Treasury.
It's a show of solidarity with federal workers forced to go on furlough.
The announcement came after the Defense Secretary and Deputy Defense Secretary pledged to return a portion of their salaries.
Thousands of federal workers are facing mandatory furloughs because of the budget cuts imposed by the sequester.
The President's returned salary equals $20,000.
