US helped Czech Republic remove nuclear material

The White House has helped the Czech Republic become the 10th country to remove stocks of highly enriched uranium.

It's part of President Barack Obama's goal of securing nuclear materials worldwide. Friday's announcement comes on the four-year anniversary of Obama's speech in Prague declaring nuclear terrorism to be the world's greatest threat and calling on other nations to secure nuclear materials.

National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden says the United States and international partners removed 68 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, enough for two nuclear weapons, from the Czech Republic.

Hayden says it was securely transported to Russia, where it will be converted for use in nuclear power reactors.
