Michelle Jones retired all 15 batters she faced on Sunday as the senior hurler was perfect, throwing just the sixth perfect game in school history, as the UW-Stevens Point softball team rolled to an 8-0 win over UW-Superior.
Jones retired five batters via the strikeout and relied on her defense for the rest, forcing seven fly-ball outs and three ground ball outs in the shutout victory.
UWSP posted three runs in the opening frame and added one each in the second and third to give Jones a five-run cushion. Another three runs in the fourth gave UWSP the eight runs needed to earn the victory in five innings via the run rule.
Sam Raddant and Katie Schulfer each went 3-for-3 on the day while Jordan Schreiner drove in a pair for the Pointers.
The Pointers dropped game two of the day to UW-Eau Claire 8-3.
Jordan Schreiner and Alicia Hahnemann each collected a pair of hits in the loss. Kali Riddell suffered the loss.
UW-Stevens Point (15-5, 2-2 WIAC) is next scheduled for action on Wednesday, April 10 at home against UW-Oshkosh. First pitch, weather permitting, is scheduled for 3 p.m. from McCarty Memorial Field.
